What’s Your Fashion Personality?

Ever wonder what it’s like to be a fashion buyer at big retailers like Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Barney’s, Macy’s, or even Sears? As an aspiring stylist, I certainly do! And this week, I had the opportunity to open a store via StyleOwner called Alpha Caste. I find that a stylist and a fashion buyer have common responsibilities: find the best clothes for your clients. Except, a stylist works with one client making it a really personalized experience, where as a fashion buyer has to work with different segmentations of clients. What makes a good stylist is the ability to actually be style-neutral and to realize the aesthetic appeal and the potential of a piece of clothing for what it is, regardless if it suits your personal style or not. One important aspect about being a stylist, is to understand a person’s style, which can be a mix of various fashion personality types. Take a look at the summaries of each fashion personality, and find out yours now!

If you’ve visited my profile, you would see a breakdown of my style:

- 5% Bohemian
- 10% Bombshell
- 15% Classic
- 0% Eccentric
- 5% Edgy / Rocker Chic
- 10% Lady
10% Minimalist
- 30% Modern / Fashion-Forward
- 10% Preppy
- 5% Sporty/Casual

Alright, at first glance, it looks like I have a huge style identity crisis. Maybe it’s a little chaotic and diverse, but this specific breakdown represents ME! And as my style evolves, the percentages will increase and decrease in certain areas.

My style is a combination of sporty and minimalist. How do I transform to bombshell/classic?

    • Susan

Well bombshell style is very form-fitting. When you think Marilyn Monroe, she’s known for her iconic hourglass figure! So make sure your waist is defined somehow. Fitted high-waisted pencil skirts can be sexy and classic – wear a belt to define your waist! Say if you wear a simple long sleeve fitted round neck cotton shirt with a tight pencil skirt is the perfect blend of classic and bombshell.

If you’re not a fan of fitted attire and prefer a flowy look, pick and choose either your legs or your chest to show off (not both unless you’re ready for that!). If you want tips for a specific occasion, let me know here!

I found this blogpost last fall but still find myself turning to it when I’m having a fashion identity crisis. Thank you for your hard work in creating such a clear, cohesive post.

    These are so cute!
I have no idea what I am…I like bohemian, but it just doesn’t fit my personality. I’m a huge introvert and am kind of scared to dress up nice because I’m use to wearing really plain clothes. I’m trying to find a style. Bohemian and classic are very appealing…I have no idea how to mix those, though.
    Great article! :D

How would you mix bohemian, classic and preppy??

    ← Reply

    • Susan

Hi Elizabeth. Sorry for the late reply!
Preppy is very close to classic.
Vintage items and Cardigans are key…maybe you might like the cardigans bulky (preppy) or rather fitted (classic), which can be worn over a nice bohemian dress. A thick knitted crochet sweater can accomplish the same..and depending on the look it can be preppy or bohemian

A lot of styling has to do with accessories. So if you have a simple classic outfit (like a sheer blouse) you can pair it with bohemian jewelry and bags.

Bohemian style is very “flowy” and comfortable…so if you style that with something more clean cut like a blazer or simple sexy pumps…you’ll have a really unique look. Just remember to be cohesive when pairing things together. Check out “how to be a s.n.o.b” for more tips on that.

      Hope I helped!
