On Friday, I met up with a fellow Montreal fashion blogger by the name of Sarah Monaco (I know, doesn’t that sound like the name of a celebrity?). We had lunch at the lovely Castel Café on Sherbrooke street, and discussed ideas for future collaborations. We also got to talking about the ups and downs of being a local blogger. It’s always fun to meet someone with whom I can relate on such topics, as my engineering friends are far from willing to talk about fashion for hours at a time! : )

Sarah and I had apparently crossed paths a few times at MFW24, but she tells me that she didn’t know how to approach the Snob Affair crew without “making things awkward.” Funny enough, I recognized her when we met up at the café, as I had frequently seen her roaming the halls in school. “Oh, who’s that chic girl?” I would ask myself sometimes. “It must be a first or second year engineering student, my guess is chemical or civil.”

I was wrong on all counts, except for the fashionista part. Sarah is a Psychology major, with a double minor in Molecular Biology and Italian Studies. She’s also taken a ton of economics courses. Broad interests, much?

I brought my camera with me to our meeting and was prepared to turn some heads on campus with street style photography. Sarah is very photogenic, so it was tough choosing my favourite shots to edit! I hope you like the result. It’s spring break for us McGillians, so we’re planning a shoot in the near future. I’m very excited for that!

T by Alexander Wang

1

Each and every piece in this ready to wear collection entitled T by Alexander Wang is to-die-for. I have never once been disappointed with an item of his, and this is owed to the commonly-found structured silhouettes and bold styling in his collections. Need I mention that nobody does black better than Alexander Wang? Enjoy my commentary along with the photos of this fall 2013 collection.

3

Black and blue dominate this collection. Many designers attempt this scheme, as blue is the one color many are not afraid to wear. What I admire about Alexander Wang is that he is able to create ready-to-wear so as to make a not-so-daring lady look like she takes risks in fashion. There is in fact no risk in wearing something that easily flatters!

4

Layer onto layer onto layer, the above look is three stages of beauty. I absolutely love the flat lace booties – it just adds that sporty feel to an otherwise generic-looking patent ankle boot.  Details, details…

When i say that I love structured silhouettes, I mean I LOVE structured silhouettes. The stiffness of leather is used to Alexander’s advantage in this one. Lines and curves turn this coat-skirt ensemble into a winner. It is reminiscent of the leather bags in the store that catch my eye – the kind that assert one’s presence! Minimal can be so in-your-face sometimes.

Rachel Sin FW2013: Easy Chic

Runway1

Rachel Sin’s New Fall winter Collection was flirty, girly, but sophisticated. The Geek Chic Styling was endearing, sexy and suitable for Rachel Sin’s clothing collection. The look kind of reminds me of Gisele Bundchen in Devil Wears Prada, the nonchalant hairdo and the big-frame eye glasses that says “I’m beautiful and smart, thank you very much.”

The collection is trendy office wear, with the neutral palette and dark teal – perfect for Fall. But with the touch of mint green and orange polka dots, it added the playfulness the collection needed to break away from the typical somber autumn colors. But even so, all of these pieces are great all year round for a nice dinner with friends, happy hour, and many more.

One of my personal favourite looks is the next photo, the dark teal get-up, which had a twist to paneled pants (literally) and a matching boyfriend-cut blazer.   The clean lines in the collection, and the mix and match of sheer polka dot details, are definitely flattering for any female figure. But hands down, the flutter blouse (the first photo) is my favourite piece of the collection because of it’s originality. It’s just something I think many girls might like and would specifically search up Rachel Sin just to get that trendy dress shirt. Maybe I can convince Rachel to lend it to me! Haha, a girl can wish!

On a final note, Rachel looked adorable when she walked along her models, perhaps the geek chic styling was basically inspired by herself! Even Daura took some time to realize that it was Rachel leading the models in the runway.
