Fashion Thoughts

What to blog about today? I haven’t done an outfit shoot and I’m too swamped with work to do research for a decent article. How about some random fashion thoughts?

1. I will always love skinnies. I hate excess material at my ankles. I cringe at the thought of salt-stained hems in the winter time.

2. I wish people in fashion were less sheep-like. Kate Moss! Karlie Kloss! Here comes Queen Delavigne! Give it a rest and maybe that way we can all equally take part in what it is we love, and that’s celebrating beautiful clothes, not beautiful famous people.

3. Pastels in the fall? It can be pulled off if you’ve got the right bag and shoes, but for a non-tacky pastel-coloured bag I would imagine you’d have to go designer.

4. In order to control ourselves while shopping in NYC, my friends and I made up a golden rule: If it ain’t “stop and stare,” don’t buy it. When you’re a fashionista, semi-statement items just have no place in the wardrobe.

5. The new McQueen collection is just wow.

6. This one is with a friend in mind. STFU to anyone who says “real women are ______.”

7. When you’re about to dish out 100 bucks on Philip Lim for target just because there was so much hype around it, it’s time to think about opportunity cost. Take that money and contribute it to something like this, this or maybe even this.

Quick outfit post! Everything I love is in this outfit – a unique color combination to welcome the fall weather, a detailed pattern, feminine cuts, a beanie to chill things out and most of all, my super chunky Balenciaga Booties! Can you believe this latest shoot was done in a span of around 15 minutes? Casual street style FTW. I’m in the middle of exams right now but that doesn’t stop me from dressing my best! I did have an incentive, though – last Friday I met up with a few students in Fashion Marketing in LaSalle college to give them some information on fashion blogging and how I wound up doing what I’m currently doing. I’m looking forward to giving a presentation about the blogging industry to their class next Friday! I’ll be sure to include as much useful information as possible, as my experiences apply to anyone who is looking to start a personal website, be it to support a business or double as a resume. I’ll be summarizing my presentation on here.

One thing I do have to say about fashion blogging right now is that I’m epically bored of these posts. Sure, I try to keep things fresh in my outfits and present you with great photography, but until I start producing some extremely unique content, I’ll remain unsatisfied with my contribution to fashion. Oversaturation of the industry isn’t the issue here, because it allows for an interesting opportunity to break the mould. Anyway…I’ll save these thoughts for my presentation!

With the help of social media, Stromae announced to his fans that he would be performing a little “stunt” in Montreal today at 12:30 PM at Place des Arts. I rushed to the scene this afternoon and managed to get these pretty awesome shots* of the Belgian artist. His performance of his 2 hits “Formidable” and “Papaoutai” on his new album Racine Carrée was exceptional.

Being the fashion-obsessed person that I am, I could tell that this hard-working musician puts an equal amount of effort into his style and overall image. It’s not the first time Stromae is seen in this sick geometric polo, he was also wearing it here and here. Belgian stylist Coralie Barbier is the one responsible for Stromae’s impeccable style. I’m thinking that she gets her inspiration from the likes of high-end fashion labels such as Kenzo Paris and Josh Goot. These brands really understand the importance of proportions and color combinations in their patterns. It’s modern, it’s clean, it’s eccentric and it’s exactly how I love to dress (stay tuned for my next outfit post Winking smile )! Did you get to see Stromae perform today? If you missed it I shall be posting my video of his performance on YouTube shortly! Have a fashionable weekend.
