With all the things on my mind lately, the last thing I want to be worrying about is my purse handle falling off of my shoulder, tripping on a crack in the road while wearing heels or some wind catching the back of my skirt. Comfort is king in these transitional months, and I’ll be saving my less practical items for warmer weather and less hectic days. In the meantime, I’m perfectly content being boyish.

Here are some shots I took at home after I got my hair done in ombre turquoise! I originally planned for the tips to be cobalt blue, but as I had to bleach my dark Asian hair to make it blond before the dye was added, I believe that the yellow tint contributed to this greener result. Either way, I was happy with how it turned out! Although the hype for brunette-blond ombre hair has subsided, this more unique take on ombre hair keeps things fresh in my book.

I also had some unpublished shots from right before my hair was done. I thought I would be missing my long hair, but before I know it, my super-fast growing hair will be long again. Short hair may seem easier to maintain, but I feel as though long hair can pull off a messy I-don’t-care sort of look, whereas messy short hair on me just looks neglected and unpolished. This does depend on the type of hair you have – those with wavier hair have an easier time pulling off the short beach/out-of-bed look.

I created a Pinterest board for hair inspirations before heading to the salon. I highly recommend making a Pinterest board if you’re changing your look or even thinking of buying a new outfit! It helps to compare variations of the same look, and weigh out their pros and cons. Aside from Pinterest, there are many other ways to help you choose the right look. If you would like to know how to make great buying decisions in the mall, check out my recent article.

This album combines modern architecture, urban/street style and film photography. As far as our generation is concerned, fashion is all about mixing the old with the new! I absolutely love the grainy look of film photos, especially in the shadowy areas of each shot. The colors also turned out great – notice my new hair? :)

I`d like to thank Ryu for really doing his homework before this shoot. No time was wasted, as he knew exactly where in that massive building we should go to snap our shots. The great thing about photography is that you can progress in your work wherever you go. Every room, structure and light source can inspire an idea for a shot. Ryu keeps his eyes peeled as he wanders the city every single day. I would say that I’m the same way when it comes to style. Whether I know you or not, I’m observing what you’re wearing and taking notes in my head (fear not, I mean no harm). I tell myself what I shouldn’t wear and what I should experiment with. I don’t like to have only one style – I like to be whoever I want to be. I was wearing this first outfit in a McDonald’s and noticed two strangers observing me, much like I observe others. They probably thought I always dressed like this. Probably put me into a certain category. What they don’t know is that one day I’m a street kid and the next I’m head-to-toe Chanel…JK. I can’t afford Chanel, but if I could, I would be too good with my money to buy it.

I would like to wish everyone who follows the lunar calendar a happy new year! Drink lots of tea and get lots of red envelopes.

– D
