Beam Me Up

beam me up

Good morning! This photo got a ton of hype from my circle of friends, so I thought you’d enjoy it too. I was recently at the Montreal Lights Festival with my good friend Yannick and he snapped this one of me, amongst some other cool shots. The colors here are amazing!

If you’re in town and have attended the Montreal Lights Festival with your camera, I’d love to see some of your own photos.

WordPress is being a bitch as usual so you can view the full version here.

Also, the Hip and Bone Snapback Contest is now over and we will be announcing the winner shortly. Stay tuned for that.

Why Martin Lim Wowed at Fashion Week

ML_03

Although grouping all our favourites of Montreal Fashion Week would have been much easier on us busy bloggers, we decided that it would not do Martin Lim’s Fall/Winter 2013 collection justice to be grouped with all the rest. Hence, this separate review post to appreciate their collection, simply because we were blown away!  The collection is filled with some serious vitality and class, though is in no sense uptight.  Danielle Martin and Pao Lim have designed for the smart, elegant and confident lady who doesn’t hesitate to let loose and have a little fun.

The styling was DEFINITELY on the ball.  Designers often attempt to create a surreal environment in styling their collections with dramatic makeup and hair, which does indeed have its own advantages on the runway (high fashion is an unattainable dream).  Martin Lim took an intelligent approach with a romantic and feminine look, which allowed the female audience to properly envision themselves wearing these pieces (and pulling them off).  In my opinion, this is owed to a keen intuition for business on Martin Lim’s part.

It is impressive to see how far Martin Lim has come.  These young designers have reached great success at Montreal Fashion Week 24 and we anticipate much more in the years to come.

Enjoy these photos of our favourite pieces, courtesy of our photographer Dru.

Take Off Your Clothes!

Well…maybe not literally. But here’s a fun (CHARITY!) event to get rid of the clothes that you’re kind of bored of and trade them for new ones – well new to your wardrobe! “Take Off Your Clothes” is a giant clothing swap for charity organized by the SWAP team, a non-profit social enterprise run entirely by volunteers!

Now back in July, the SWAP team organized this event and it was immensely successful. It was such a success that it just had to be done again! Thus the “Take Off Your Clothes – Concordia University Edition” is taking place this Wednesday September 19th, from 1-5pm! You have less than 20 hours to buy your advance tickets! GO GO GO! If not, you can still buy door tickets!

How it works is that on the day of the SWAP event, you bring a bag of clothes you would like to give away. Any accepted item which must be clean and undamaged, earns you 1 exchange coupon, valid for an item at the swap.

We will also be at the event as official fashion consultants. We can offer you advice on how you can style the newly swapped item of clothing, answer any style questions you may have, or even if you just feel like chatting with us!

swap-poster_option2-1It’s a great event to be inspired by vintage-like items, update your wardrobe without breaking the bank account, and indirectly serve your community! All remaining clothing will be donated to Renaissance, a Montreal-based charity!

Here’s just a little tidbit, the SWAP Team was founded in 2007 and has since branched out to different cities. The current chapters are in Montreal, Boston, NYC, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, Halifax, Winnipeg, Northampton (MA) and Quebec City. I can guarantee that it won’t stop there!
